The Equipment Behind the Work We Do
The apparatus and equipment at West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2 play an important role in helping us respond when our community needs us. Our trucks, support vehicles, and related equipment reflect years of growth, investment, and continued improvement as the department has adapted over time.
As West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2 has grown, our equipment has changed with it to help meet the demands of fire protection, emergency response, and local service.
A Department That Continues to Grow
From early equipment purchases to later replacements and upgrades, West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2 has continued improving its apparatus to better serve the community. The original history text references the department’s Dodge Power Wagon, 1957 ambulance, Seagrave engine, ladder truck, tanker, Spartan/Smeal engine, and Spartan/Precision tanker as part of that ongoing growth.

Tanker
2021 Spartan Pumper. This unit is equipped with a 2,000-gallon water tank and a 1,500 GPM pump. It was built and upfitted by Precision Fire Apparatus in Branson, MO. The primary use of this apparatus is for structure fires and gas-related incidents within buildings.
Rescue Engine
2001 Spartan Pumper. This unit is equipped with a 1,000-gallon water tank and a 1,500 GPM pump. It was recently refurbished and upfitted by Keystone Fire Apparatus. The primary use of this apparatus is for vehicle accidents, technical rescues, and other emergency incidents. This vehicle is recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an “Operations Level” rescue truck.
Brush
2025 Ram Cummins 5500. This unit was built and upfitted by Keystone Fire Apparatus, with construction beginning in late 2024 and delivery completed in the spring of 2025. It is a versatile apparatus with a wide range of uses, including brush fire response and technical rescue operations. The unit is equipped with a pump-and-roll system, allowing the crew to operate the pump from within the cab when needed. It features a 30 HP diesel Kubota motor and a 208-gallon water tank. The truck also carries a large assortment of rope and rescue equipment and is outfitted with a full Whelen Core lighting system with V2V sync capabilities.
UTV-1
2024 Can-Am Defender. This unit was built and upfitted by Hexco Motorsports in Oshkosh, WI. It is equipped with an 85-gallon water tank and pump for brush fire support. The enclosed cab features both heating and air conditioning, allowing for patient care in harsh weather conditions. The unit is also outfitted with a full Whelen Core lighting system with V2V sync capabilities.
Squad
2025 Ram 2500. This unit was upfitted by IBIS Emergency Vehicles in late 2025. The primary use of this apparatus is for incident support and towing the department’s two trailers. It is equipped with a full Whelen Core lighting system with V2V sync capabilities.
Utility
2014 Ram 2500. This unit was recently refurbished and upfitted by IBIS Emergency Vehicles in 2025. The primary use of this apparatus is for natural gas and carbon monoxide incidents. It is also utilized for general incident support and towing the department’s two trailers. The unit is equipped with a full Whelen Core lighting system with V2V sync capabilities.
Command
2024 Chevy PPV Tahoe. The primary use of this unit is for command operations. It is also equipped with a Teledyne SIRAS thermal drone for aerial support and scene assessment. The vehicle was upfitted by IBIS Emergency Vehicles in 2024. It is outfitted with a full Whelen Core lighting system with V2V sync capabilities.
Chief
2023 Ford Explorer. This unit was donated to the department by West Deer Township after its prior service as a West Deer Police Department vehicle. It is equipped with a DJI Matrice 4 thermal drone, which is utilized for search and rescue operations as well as elevated imaging.
I.S.U/Special Service trailer
2024 Sure-trac enclose box trailer. This unit serves a wide variety of operational purposes. It is equipped with cooling fans, heaters, traffic control devices, drone operation equipment, rehabilitation (rehab) equipment, a powered hose roller, and additional support tools. The trailer was purchased through a grant from Norfolk Southern Railway.
Vent/UTV-2
UTV-2 is a 2014 Kawasaki Mule UTV. This unit is equipped with a large structural ventilation fan. The primary use of this apparatus is for incidents requiring significant ventilation and search and rescue operations. The unit is transported using a 2014 Sure-Trac trailer.
